Bookwyrm by PhantomSeptember Bookwyrm by PhantomSeptember
I was quite proud of this until I actually scanned it...

Most powerful wyrm, your fires burn deep.
Books, not jewels to keep,
Calm as water,
Fierce as fire.

I know the whole "Bookwyrm" idea has probably been flogged to death by others already, but I really do like books a lot. And I like dragons too, so I suppose this was an eventuality.

Not too proud of the scan, but I had a blast drawing this picture.

I love pen and ink. I love dragons, and books. But all three? It's fantastic, and I love what you did with the idea. :)

I really like the impression this leaves, the concept, and the immaculate technique. What kind of pen did you use?

Thanks!

I used an S size Faber-Castell pen, and an 01 size Sakura Micron for the smaller lines.

Ahh, okay. I think I need to get some professional pens, and I like Faber-Castell pencils... so I take it you would recommend their pens too?

I guess they are professional pens, aren't they. XD I would recommend Faber-Castell and Sakura Micron.

Some people don't like Microns and opt for Staedtler pens instead. The nibs of those don't feel right against the paper to me so I use Microns instead.

Yeah, I like drawing in pen a lot; both the control you have over it and the way it looks, but I've been using ballpoint which isn't so bad, but it's got some negative traits...

Pen is nice... it produces that immediate dark colour. There's a lot of life to the colour too. Pencil doesn't really produce the same effect.

I know what you mean about ball points... I used them recently for a couple things. I don't like how they sometimes stop working or leave splotches of ink.

Uggh, the treacherous ink blots :nuu: but I do like how pressure sensitive ballpoint is.

It really takes a toll on thinner paper too... likes to make it warp easily. I think you'll enjoy using artist pens like Faber-Castell or whatever brand you end up using. :)

This piece is amazing not for it's great concept, which has not been beaten to death, but because of it's detail. It is not computer animated which makes it even better because it takes skill. Congrats on the amazing piece!

No problem. It is hard not to admire a person who pays that much attention to detail. How long do you think this picture took?

Hmmmm. I'm not sure. I had the idea for awhile, then the sketch lay around for awhile, then I inked for a long time. I really have no idea. It might've taken about 28 hours? Not including idea and thinking time. I'm not really sure though.

I've always been very hesitant to post my writing here since I plan to actually get it published someday.

Ditto. I do have some stuff published, but I sent the wrong file to the publisher and then lost internet connection and with my work schedule I couldn't get to the library during operating hours, and that particular publisher will only contact via internet--even though I asked them to call me. It was a terribly frustrating time. ANd now I can't make any changes to the work until 2024 when I get the rights to the crappy book back.
However, I have recently discovered that blogger.com has the option of turning your blog into a book. I'm going to be looking into that. And there's another website that is basically self-publishing that sells through amazon--I've a few friends through them and they seem to be doing great. I just can't remember the site. :/

createspace [dot] com is the site. :) I remembered and looked it up to be sure. I think I'll be looking into them next. I don't really want to pay to have my stuff published, but after my experience with the current publisher, paying would be worth it a whole lot more. You'd probably get MUCH better... customer service? Is that the term I'm looking for?
