Oh I read that wrong... I thought you were complaining about messing up his hair and I couldn't figure out what the heck could possibly be wrong with it cause it's gorgeous. 
I like your linework a lot too, but I sort of agree with your teachers about not using so many lines- mostly cause I want to know that you CAN do it, not so much that you have to
