Drache by PhantomSeptember Drache by PhantomSeptember
About time huh. Finally finished it.

Well... I don't know if I like it or not. There seems to be something missing in the contrast... I don't know.

I think this dragon is my favorite so far, simply because of the texture of the scales. My other favorite so far is the phoenix head.

Mars Lumograph pencils made by "Staedtler."

Regular meaning 'normal' every day pencils like the ones you use in school to take notes with? That kind of regular.

Mars Lumograph pencils are sold at most art stores. Regular pencils can be bought from any office supply store.

As long as you don't upload it anywhere I'm fine with it. And sure, I'd like to see it.

I very like the details and the musle^^
but why is the back horn bigger than the front?
its perspectiv it should be reversed...O.o

Ha XD I hadn't noticed that. It probably happened that way because I was running out of room and ended up over compensating by making it too big in the back.

Amazing artwork, really cool! :faint: And done with nothing but a pencil it's even more astonishing!

But, may I ask you why you did call this pic "Drache"?
Reply
:iconphantomseptember:
PhantomSeptember Featured By Owner Mar 19, 2008
.... well... because Drache means dragon (kind of) and this is a dragon.

:aww: Sorry, perhaps my question was unclear. "Drache" is german and I'm from germany.

I just wondered why you chose this word instead of the english one: Dragon... ^^;

Oh XD Well, I'd already used the word Dragon for another picture I'd done and I'd already used Ryu (Japanese word for dragon) so, I moved on to the German word for Dragon. :)

i really fancy that :) it's all those details which make it come alive on my screen, you played with them in a very nice way. if you think it lacks contrast, it might be because of being in a digital form, that happens to me as well... traditional art looks the best "live" ;) but this is still outstanding piece

The contrast is really, really nice on the neck, but the face is a little too similar in value in some places. If you left areas, like the teeth and those spikes on the snout and head, whiter, you might achieve the contrast you're looking for. You could always pull out some of the darker shading with a kneaded eraser. But seriously, all that talk aside, I love this. Your dragon drawings are really great.
And seeing good traditional art kind of makes me wonder why I haven't done any for...hell, almost all summer.

Wow! Thank you for the favourite! :) The whiters parts would have created more contrast wouldn't it... thank you :)

Well, when you do put some more art out I'll be sure to look at it :) You're stuff's awesome :)

Wow... so... many... smiley faces...

Your shading was done very well!

What kind of pencils did you use to do this one ?

well, we know you can do some awesome dragons, but maybe this one needed a touch/hint of color.. his eye is really hard to see... :) Also, can you do some lighter aligned ones?? perhaps a playful gold or something??
This is one image: [link]

This is a mature female, and the males as they get older seem to smile and actually get whiskers like the typical pictures of Confusius that you see.. :)

You spelled Confucius wrong... I think. But yeah, I'll give it a try in my next dragon. I kept getting darker and darker with my pencil with every dragon so now I guess it's time to go the other way.
