Peter Pan by PhantomSeptember Peter Pan by PhantomSeptember
Well, you guys have wanted something totally different from me... so here it is... full body, anatomy, disgusting colours...

I've always hated the various illustrations done of Peter Pan, because they aren't ever quite right. He's dressed in leaves, yes, but he has a shirt made of leaves, not just some shapeless mass that is passed off as clothing. Most illustrators just make him look like he's wearing a bush.

Peter Pan was taught courtly manners by the fairies. I think they probably also made his clothes for him. Especially since he didn't even know what the word "sew" even was until Wendy came along. The shirt is made of ginko leaves and the trousers, well, those leaves I'm not really sure about. He has acorn buttons on them though. And yes, he is wearing fishnet under his shirt. Maybe it was a gift from the mermaids.

All that being said, I think this picture sucks. I put a lot of thought into it, but my technique and anatomy are so dreadfully underdeveloped it's kind of depressing really.

Oh well. Better luck next time. I did manage to improve on one thing a little: anatomy. Yay!

A very Fae looking Peter Pan. Looks just like Puck of the Faeries.

It's a great version of Peter! Makes me think of the Goblin King from Labyrinth. It's also great that you didn't give him pointy shoes like most versions, you left him barefoot like he's supposed to be. Peter isn't Peter Pan unless he's barefoot, to me.

He reminds me of Jareth, the Goblin King from Labyrinth.

Well, Peter Pan and Jareth both do steal children. Hmmm *thinks about this*

Looks really good to me. See, I didn't know that peter pan was supposed to wear leaf clothing. Then again, I don't think I've ever even read the original books of many fairy tales.

Thanks! Peter Pan is a pretty small and interesting book if you ever get the chance to read it. Naturally, the book is a lot darker, and better, than the Disney movie version.

F*ck yeah, Peter Pan. You’re being super harsh on yourself. I think this is a really awesome rendition. I love the leaves and scales and fishnet clothing–it looks kickass with your inking.

So, I was going to read the comments before I posted... But there's a LOT of comments o.O;

Personally, I really like this picture :D Also, my favorite color is green (well, technically it's blood red, but you can't find that anywhere; my second top fave is green).

I personally love this~
Because it's true, Peter Pan is not some random monkey boy, he's a boy who's been charmed by Faeries and is clever and sharp and is one with the forest he lives in.

I think you should see the animated movie "The Secret of Kells"
It'll give you some awesome ideas on coloring~

If there is one thing I can always admire and gush over in your work, it's the amount of detail you put in the linework for each one. I just love it all and the intricate thought you put into the making of the clothes and the background really does show, and I think you need to give yourself more credit on that front.

The coloring does seem a little odd, I'll be honest, but I think it's more the fact that the contrast between the very dark linework and the light green and blue layout seems rough. My initial instinct would be to subdue the heavier dark linework and increase the saturation of the colors, but I could be wrong.

As for anatomy, I don't find very many issues. The only things I can think of is this. The torso and the arms feel slightly long and the head seems slightly larger than necessary, but I think given Peter Pan's somewhat more youthful nature, I think the head size is acceptable.

Hope this helps. I personally think this is a pretty nice looking piece of work, and it is an interesting change of pace from your other works.

I do like line-work... I do wish I'd get better at colour though.

Ngg, that colouring. It really is the bane of this picture. I never thought of it having to do with the line work... I see what you mean. My art teachers were always driven up the wall by the fact that I just love outlining things darkly. I really should practice trying to do things without such stark outlining.

Ahha, my big heads, long torsos and arms... I wonder if I'll ever defeat my animu tendencies.

Yep! I wanted it to be as big a change as possible from my normal stuff. Unfortunately it meant a slight reduction in quality. I'm sure I'll get better if I practice though.

I don't know, again, I feel like the colors need to be much brighter than it currently is, but that's just me, and I'm sure you know my tendencies towards obnoxiously bright colors.

Anywho, I wouldn't fret, as long as you're continuing to draw, I'm sure you'll get better at it, and this was an interesting change of pace for you.

I've liked this one from the beginning and I still like it a lot. It is pretty daring for you...but the anatomy turned out fantastic, and the hair and clothing look great as always! :) The composition has lots of movement and interesting textures too.

I think I figured out why the colour choice is strange. It feels a little as though...you began with the idea of making it a darker picture, with his childlike-ness more subdued (he is dressed quite maturely, and has an alluring expression, after all)...and then went in with the vivid colours as an afterthought of 'he needs to look much more childlike.' So...those two elements clash a little.

Does that make sense? I know you probably didn't need this sad little attempt at critique...but. For whatever it's worth. XD

I wish Tim Burton would do a Peter Pan movie too. If he keeps his touch.

Thanks. :)

Strange thing is, you're dead wrong. XD My thinking was completely different from that at all stages of planning. Not to mention I don't think he's dressed maturely and plenty of kids have that expression. It's quite creepy actually. He's dressed like a fairy prince, since they're probably the ones who made him clothes. From the very start I was planning very vivid colours. In fact, the bright colours may have been the first thing I started thinking about with this picture. I just wasn't sure which ones to use. I actually think these colours are quite toned down from what I planned originally.
